Ferrari vs. Lamborghini: Which is Better for you?

Updated: Jun 3, 2022

Classes

Ferrari and Lamborghini are most strongly associated with sports cars. Both do offer sports cars, however, Ferrari also offers Grand Tourer (GT) models. GT cars are still high-performance cars, with high horsepower and high speeds. However, a GT model will tend to offer more comfort, and is often slightly larger. This is because GT cars were originally conceived and thus designed for long distance road travel. Ferrari even produced some of the first GT vehicles. Lamborghini, however, does not offer any GT models, and as of 2019 only offers 3 sports car models. However, as of 2019 Lamborghini has begun to offer an SUV: the Lamborghini Urus.

Performance

Horsepower and speed are also strongly associated with these manufacturers. As of 2019, the fastest street-legal Ferrari is the 488 Pista, with a maximum speed just over 210 mph and the ability to accelerate to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. However, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ just edges past that with a maximum speed at 217 mph, with a similar acceleration time. Lamborghini also tends to produce higher horsepower vehicles.

Maintenance is an important part of owning a car. Regular maintenance prevents future costs from skyrocketing, extends the life of a car, and preserves a good driving experience. Ferrari offers a complimentary 7 year maintenance plan for new cars, and you can get yearly checkups on your vehicle at your dealership. Lamborghini offers various maintenance plans for its vehicles, including coverage for damage. Maintaining a supercar is pricier than maintaining a regular vehicle, so make sure you talk to your dealer about maintenance plans. Fortunately, Lamborghini has a reputation for good reliability – and new Ferrari models tend to be just as reliable.

Cost

Cars are large investments. Supercars even moreso. The least expensive Ferrari and the least expensive Lamborghini are both approximately $200,000 (USD). In terms of fuel economy, the Ferrari models with the most miles per gallon are the 488 GTB and the 488 Spider, which both have a combined MPG of 18. Lamborghini’s model with the best MPG is the Huracan, at 15 combined MPG. Remember that registration and insurance will add onto the cost of purchasing a car, as well.

Who should purchase a Ferrari?

If you want a luxurious, comfortable car, Ferrari’s GT models are a good place to look. Ferrari’s 7 year maintenance plan is another factor that may sway a potential buyer – you can simply take your car in for a yearly check-up. The slightly lower cost afforded by an increased fuel economy and complimentary maintenance do not make Ferraris cheap, however. Ferrari only offers semi-automatic transmission as well, so make sure you know how to use the clutch.

If you want one of the fastest street-legal cars in the world, a Lamborghini is the car for you. If you’re interested in an incredibly high-performing SUV, you should also look into Lamborghini’s Urus model. Lamborghini offers a similar semi-automatic transmission to Ferrari, but if you prefer to drive a manual, you should also go for a Lamborghini. Finally, Lamborghini produces less vehicles overall than Ferrari. The exclusivity of driving a Lamborghini will make your car stand out, even among other supercars.

Buying any vehicle requires research. Since supercars are such large investments, you should read everything you can before coming to your final decision. Additionally, if you want to save more money on your car, you can register a Montana LLC to lower sales tax and registration cost.
